Friendship Isn't Binary
Most social networks put you in a position to say that someone is either a friend or they aren't, ignoring the many nuances that define and differentiate personal relationships. We built this feature about two weeks after launch in response to a user's request - it later became known as The Ex-Girlfriend bug.
The Manage Friends feature allowed people to accept others' friend requests and then choose whether or not they would broadcast messages/their location to that friend.
